Biomass Fuels
The greatest source of renewable energy is biomass, which is used for energy purposes during combustion of timber and timber by-products, straw, plant production wastes and energy crops. In 2008, PEP launched projects to supply the energy sector with pellets manufactured from agricultural biomass, in particular from straw. PEP decided to do business in this market sector responding to the growing demand of the domestic energy sector for agricultural biomass whose supply is still limited. Straw pellets were selected as the best form of combusting straw because of:
- low transportation costs,
- ease of domestic transportation,
- good physical and chemical parameters,
- very good conditions for co-firing with coal.
PEP’s cooperation with power plants is based on long-term contracts for biomass fuel deliveries in the form of pellet, the terms and conditions of which are tailored to the needs of individual customers.
